Dhoni encourages Pakistan series

Indian captain and wicket keeper batsman Mahindra Singh Dhoni has announced that his Indian team would be open to resuming the bi-lateral cricketing ties with neighbouring country and rivals Pakistan. However the concern of the thirty year old was that with an already full cricketing schedule which is often prepared years in advance there seems little room for manoeuvre to fit in a series against the Pakistan team.

Many crickets have been critical of the vast number of series played and crammed into the cricketing calendar. Dhoni is no exception to this as the Chennai Super Kings player outlined his views that he is in need of a well earned break since barely having a rest period after nearly four years of continuous cricket and felt that breaks should not be cut down any further. The Indian is hoping to take around a month and a half out of the game at the end of the summer to be well rested going into the winter internationals.

Since their world cup victory last year India’s form has slumped and many of the big players have had little rest, perhaps showing that fatigue may be a contributing factor to their dip in results. Dhoni was discussing the issue of breaks following the news that Kevin Pieteresen had retired from one day and twenty 20 international cricket to concentrate on his test form due to an overly heavy workload.  Although an India Pakistan series would be much sought after by the cricketing world, scheduling may restrict the possibility to sometime in the future, Dhoni’s words encouraging the match up may help go a long way to making it happen as ultimately the players play a huge role in the decision making process when they are the ones at risk when and if the series happens.

Rahul Dravid Ready to Step Aside

Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid says that if the management of his Indian Premier League team the Rajasthan Royals can find a suitable opening partner for Ajinkya Rahane, one of the finds of the fifth edition of the IPL, he will not think twice about stepping aside from his playing capacity with the side as he already looks ahead to the 2013 season after a moderately successful 2012 season. Although the Royals finished the season with a 10 wicket thrashing at the hands of the Mumbai Indians and failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing in seventh position out of the 9 teams, Dravid himself had an IPL to remember.

The opening pairing of the veteran Indian cricketer and up and coming youngster Ajinkya Rahane was the most successful opening partnership in the IPL and this achievement gave Rahul Dravid immense pleasure. Speaking to the media, he stated that the Rajasthan Royals did not have the services of all rounder Shane Watson for almost three quarters of the tournament and he also stated that his team is not as star studded as the Chennai Super Kings, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Mumbai Indians or the Delhi Daredevils but what they did have was team spirit and that is what took them so close to making the playoff spots.

Dravid himself has scored 462 runs in the 16 matches that he has played while leading the side, which makes him the highest scoring batsman among The Holy Trinity of Indian cricket, namely himself, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

The 39 year old recently retired from international cricket after 15 years at the top of his game and it is being believed that Rahul Dravid is reluctant to continue playing in the next edition and might be given the role of mentor.

IN DEPTH: SHANE WARNE

Shane Keith Warne was an Australian Cricketer who retired recently and is considered not only one of the best bowlers in the Australian team but also one of the greatest bowlers of all times in the cricket world. Presently he is also a commentator.

He started his test career in the year 1992 against India in the Sydney Cricket Grounds and had a very poor performance in the beginning taking hardly a couple of wickets and sometimes no wickets at all. In the year 1993, Shane Warne was selected for the Ashes tour of England and was the leading wicket taker for six test series. Interesting is the fact that the first ball of the match was written into the history books as the Ball of the Century bowling to Mike Gatting. Warne had taken an overall 71 wickets in the series in the year 1993.

Shane Warne had his career best in the year 1994 in a career best 8/71 in the second innings in Gabba. Shane Warne was the Vice Captain for the Australia team in the year 1999-2000. However again he was removed not only from his vice captaincy but also from the team because of his poor performance of taking only two wickets in three innings.

The year 2003 was a dark year for Shane Warne. A day before the world cup he had to undergo a drug test and it was found that he was under drugs. However though he was not allowed to play in professional matches, he was allowed to play in charity matches but was criticized by many. After a couple of years came the Indian Premier League and was a part of the Rajasthan Royals and was a captain of the team. It was because of his captaincy that the Rajasthan Royals won the first season of the Indian Premier League after which he retired from cricket.
