DHONI HAPPY WITH PERFORMANCE

The skipper of the Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has said that he is satisfied with the performance of the Indian team in the first test match against New Zealand at Hyderabad. India won the first test match against New Zealand by an inning and 115 runs. The Indian team completely outplayed the Kiwis in all the three departments of the game. The performance of the Indian team was disastrous in the last test series against Australia. The Indian team had lost that series by 4-0.  So, Dhoni would have been quite relieved after returning to the winning ways again.

The Indian captain seemed to be quite impressed by the young classical batsman Cheteshwar Pujara who scored his maiden test century in the Hyderabad test match. Dhoni said that Pujara has got the correct technique to bat at no.  3. He has got a very solid defense and he rarely plays a rash shot. He uses his feet very well against the spinners and he also doesn’t struggle against the short, rising deliveries unlike some of the young Indian batsmen.

The off spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, also performed brilliantly in the Hyderabad test match. Ashwin took 6 wickets in each inning. On being asked about Ashwin’s performance, Dhoni said that Ashwin is a tall off spinner. So, he gets a lot of bounce. He also turns the ball both ways. So, it is not easy to pick him. On top of that, he is a very intelligent bowler and he mixes up his length very well. As per Dhoni, Ashwin has got the capability to become a great spinner. On being asked whether Raina would be dropped in the second test match after another failure in Hyderabad test, Dhoni said that Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for India in ODI cricket in the last few years. He is still pretty young and he has got the talent to become a good test batsman. He should be given some more chances to prove his worth in the test team.

WARNE CRITICISES ECB

One of the best spinners of all times, Shane Warne has criticized ECB for its stubborn behaviour on Kevin Pietersen issue. Pietersen wants ECB to allow him to play in the whole season of IPL next year, but, ECB is not ready to accept the demand of Pietersen. Many people are criticizing Pietersen for giving IPL more importance than the international cricket. But, Warne seems to have a different opinion. As per Warne, if a player doesn’t want to play a certain format of the game, there is nothing wrong in that. Pietersen doesn’t want to play in ODI cricket and that is absolutely fine.

According to the policies of ECB, the player, who doesn’t play in ODIs, is not eligible for selection in the T20 team. As per Warne, this policy is just hilarious. If you are not allowing some one to play T20 cricket just because of your ego, it is wrong. The authorities of ECB should talk to Pietersen and should find a mid way. Pietersen can still be included in the England squad for the World T20 Championship until 18th August. Warne said that without Pietersen, it would be very difficult for the English team to defend the world T20 Championship. He makes a huge difference at the top of the order in the T20s.

On being asked about Pietersen’s hundred, Warne said that it was a fantastic knock. With that knock, Pietersen showed what he can do. As per Warne, Pietersen can destroy any bowling attack in the world on his day. There have been rumors that Pietersen might announce his retirement from the test cricket as well. On being asked about that, Warne said that it would not be good for England cricket if Pietersen leaves test cricket.

Warne predicts England win

Former Australian leg spinner Shane Warne has predicted that England is going to win the upcoming series against South Africa by a healthy margin of 2-0. Warne said that South Africa is a very good team, but the England players are playing under their home conditions and they know how to play well under these conditions. Warne said that England team is in great form. The English players are confident and everyone in the team knows his role very well.

Warne also gave some tips to the England bowlers on where to bowl to the Proteas batsman. Warne advised the English bowlers to bowl wide outside the off stump to the South African captain Graeme Smith. As per Warne, Smith is not a strong driver of the bowl. So, he would struggle against the outside off stump deliveries. The English bowlers shouldn’t bowl on the pads of Smith; otherwise, they would be punished.

According to Warne, Jacques Kallis is not that good against the short deliveries. So, Warne advised the English captain Andrew Strauss to bring Stuart Broad into the attack as soon as Kallis comes to bat. Stuart Broad is very good at bowling the short balls. Also, Warne thinks that AB De Villiers is not that comfortable against the spinners. So, Graeme Swann should be brought into the attack as soon as De Villiers comes to bat. The champion leg spinner said that Hashim Amla is a stroke player. So, the English bowlers should frustrate him by keeping him quiet for some time.

Warne said that the English selectors have taken the right decision by replacing Jonny Bairstow with Ravi Bopara. He said that Bairstow was vulnerable against the short bowling and he would have struggled against the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. He said that Ravi is a talented player. But, sometimes due to bad luck and sometimes due to injury, he struggled to find a place in the side. Now, he has been given another chance and hopefully, he would make the most out of it.
